At Professional Organizer New Orleans, we help busy families throughout the Greater New Orleans area declutter and organize all areas of their homes.
One area parents commonly ask us to organize is their children’s closets. Some families contact us right before the new school year, while others simply need a refresh at some point during the year. No matter the reason, we’re here to make the closet easier to use, easier to maintain, and less stressful for the entire family.
What Can We Organize in Kids’ Closets?

We organize children’s closets of all different shapes and sizes. Every closet is different, and children often have much more than clothing stored inside them.
We can help organize:
- Everyday clothing
- School uniforms
- Shoes and accessories
- Sports gear
- Toys and games
- Books
- Arts and crafts
- Keepsakes
- Seasonal clothing
- Hand-me-downs
- Clothing your child has not grown into yet
Whether you need help with one bedroom closet or several children’s closets, or organizing a nursery closet, we can create a system that works for your family. We can also organize the dresser and bedroom if you would like help with more than the closet.
Before & After Gallery: Kids’ Closet Organization Projects

How Does Kids’ Closet Organization Work?
The first step is to contact us for a phone consultation. During the call, we’ll learn more about your project, including how many closets you would like organized and exactly what kind of help your family needs.
Typically, the phone consultation is with Olivia Parks, owner of Professional Organizer New Orleans.
Every parent wants something a little different. Some clients need help decluttering and organizing, while others already know what they want to keep and simply need us to create a better system.
Decluttering the Closet
If you would like help decluttering, we can work with you to go through your child’s clothing, toys, and other belongings. Together, we’ll decide what to keep, donate, or throw away.
The goal is to part with items your child no longer wants, needs, or uses. Removing these items helps create more space and makes it easier for everyone to find what they need. This can make getting dressed, preparing for school, and completing everyday routines much easier.
Decluttering is completely optional. If you don’t need help making decisions, we can move directly into sorting and organizing.
Checking Clothing Sizes
We can also help check sizes and separate clothing that no longer fits.
For example, you may tell us that your child has outgrown anything in size 3T. We can pull those items and either prepare them for donation or set them aside for you to review.
We can also organize clothing your child has not grown into yet. We can fold it, sort it by size, place it in a labeled bin, and store it at the top of the closet or in another area of your home.
Organizing the Closet
Once everything has been reviewed, we’ll begin organizing the closet. Depending on the space, we may remove everything, wipe down the shelves, and then sort the items into clear categories.
We may:
- Hang and organize clothing by type
- Fold clothing neatly
- Match and organize shoes
- Create sections for uniforms or sports gear
- Separate everyday and seasonal items
- Organize toys, books, or crafts
- Label bins and different categories
Our goal is to make everything easy to find and create a system your children can help maintain. Because every closet contains different items, each system is customized to the child and the family.

How Much Does Kids’ Closet Organization Cost in New Orleans?
Our closet organization services typically start around $795 and go up depending on how much help you want or need.
The cost of organizing your child’s closet depends on several factors, including:
- The size of the closet
- The number of items inside
- The closet’s current level of disorganization
- Whether you want help decluttering
- Whether we are checking clothing sizes
- Whether you need one or multiple closets organized
- Whether we are also organizing the bedroom or dresser
- The number of organizers working on the project
- The number of sessions needed
Sometimes we spend an entire session organizing one closet. Other times, we can complete multiple children’s closets during the same session. It truly depends on the closets and the amount of work involved.
During your phone consultation, we’ll ask you to send us photos of the spaces and tell us more about your budget, timeline, and priorities. From there, we can recommend the best session for your project, including whether we suggest one organizer, multiple organizers, or more than one session.

Can You Organize the Bedroom Too?
Yes. Children’s closets and bedrooms often go hand in hand, so we can also help with bedroom organizing if you’d like to tackle the entire space at the same time.
We can help organize the closet, dresser drawers, toys, books, school supplies, and other belongings throughout the room. However, if the bedroom is already in good shape and only the closet needs attention, we can focus entirely on the closet.
Organizing both the bedroom and closet makes the project larger, so how much we can complete depends on the room, the number of items, and the session you select.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you help decide which clothes to keep?
Yes. If you would like to be involved, we can help you go through your child’s clothing and decide what to keep, donate, or throw away.
If you prefer a more hands-off approach, you can give us guidelines to follow. For example, we can set aside clothing that is ripped, stained, or no longer the correct size. You can then review those items at the end of the session and make the final decisions.
Once approved, we can take a reasonable amount of donations to a local donation center for you.
Can you organize clothing my child hasn’t grown into yet?
Yes. If you have hand-me-downs or clothing that is still too large, we can sort everything by size, fold it neatly, place it in a bin, and label it.
We can then store the bin at the top of the closet or help you find another appropriate place for it in your home.
Do you organize toys too?
Yes. We can organize toys and any other items stored inside your child’s closet. We also offer playroom organization services if you would like help organizing a larger collection of toys, games, books, and craft supplies.
Do I need to buy organizing products beforehand?
No. We’ll first look at photos of the closet and determine whether we think any organizing products would be helpful.
Sometimes products can improve the space, while other closets already have everything needed to create a functional system. If we recommend products, we can send you links so you can order them before the session. Depending on the project, we may also be able to purchase the products for you for an additional procurement fee.
Can you organize more than one child’s closet?
Yes. Our sessions are typically five or five and a half hours, and we’ll complete as much as possible during that time.
Sometimes one closet requires the entire session. In other cases, we may be able to organize multiple closets. This depends on their size, how many items they contain, whether we are decluttering or checking sizes, and how many organizers are working with you.
The more organizers you have during a session, the more we can typically accomplish. Once we see photos and learn more about your project, we’ll recommend the option that makes the most sense.
