Garages can quickly become a place where everything that doesn’t have a designated spot inside the home ends up. Over time, boxes, household items, school supplies, seasonal items, and other belongings can pile up and make it difficult to find what you need.
For this garage organization project in New Orleans, our client wanted help creating better systems for the items being stored in her garage, including a large amount of school supplies and teaching materials.
The Garage Project
Our client had a variety of school supplies, teaching materials, paperwork, and household items stored throughout the garage. She wanted everything better categorized and organized so she could easily find what she needed.

The Garage Organization Process
We started by going through the items in the garage and sorting everything into categories. School supplies went together, teaching materials were grouped together, paperwork was separated, and other household items were organized based on how they were used.
Once everything was categorized, we could determine where each group of items should be stored and create systems that made sense for the space.
Why We Didn’t Declutter During This Project
For this particular project, our client was not present during the organizing session and wanted us to keep most of the belongings in the garage.
When decluttering requires decisions about what should be kept, donated, or discarded, we work alongside our clients so they can make those decisions themselves. Since that wasn’t part of this project, our focus was on organizing and creating better storage systems for the items our client wanted to keep.
Creating Functional Garage Storage Systems
Because there were a lot of school supplies, teaching materials, paperwork, and smaller items being stored in the garage, Olivia recommended bringing clear storage bins in several sizes.
Our organizers selected the bins that worked best for each category and labeled them so our client could easily see what was inside, find what she needed, and know where everything belonged when putting items away.
Organizing products are always optional. We can work with products you already have or bring additional bins, baskets, and containers when they would improve the organization and functionality of the space.
The Final Result
By the end of the session, the school supplies, teaching materials, paperwork, and household items that had previously been stored throughout the garage were separated into clearly defined categories.
Each category had a designated place, frequently used supplies were easier to access, and labeled bins made it easy to see where everything belonged.
This garage organization project was completed by two professional organizers during a session lasting up to five hours.
